Governor Inslee kicked off the 13th Annual Symposium and first virtual meeting describing the importance of deep decarbonization and the contributions of science and technology to a decarbonized future.

Members were elected to the Academy in recognition of their outstanding record of scientific and technical achievement and their willingness to work on behalf of the Academy to bring the best available science to bear on issues within the state of Washington.

The Washington State Academy of Sciences (WSAS) is pleased to announce one new Officer and five new Board Members who were elected by the WSAS Membership in June 2020.

WSAS is developing activities that will mobilize interdisciplinary experts to engage with government and other public, nonprofit, philanthropic, and private sector stakeholders—now, as they face difficult decisions in the ongoing management of the pandemic, and in the future, as they contemplate lessons learned to improve preparedness and enhance resilience.

WSAS has convened a Steering Committee to help guide the Academy's response to the pandemic and provide input to the state where requested.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife engaged WSAS to impanel a group of experts to review updates to their document "A review of hatchery reform science in Washington State."

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic death of member Ann Nelson. Dr. Nelson was inducted to WSAS in 2012; the same year she was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

WSAS is pleased to announce announce two new Officers and five new Board Members who were elected by the WSAS Membership in June 2019. The newly elected Officers and Board Members will begin their terms after the Members’ Meeting on September 12, 2019.

New members will be inducted into WSAS following the 12th Annual Symposium and Members' Meeting at the Museum of Flight in Seattle on September 12, 2019.
