Independent Scientific Review

The Academy was asked by the Washington Department of Commerce to vet and recruit a panel of scientific and technical experts in relevant fields to conduct the review of proposals received through the department's Clean Energy Fund, RD&D competition.

The Academy conducts an annual review of nominations to the Puget Sound Partnership (PSP) Science Panel, followed by submission of recommendations to PSP’s Leadership Council.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife asked the Academy to engage technical experts for the development of the science synthesis report/manuscript on salmon hatcheries by 1) providing input and comments on the report outline, 2) facilitating a workshop with the WDFW project team and stakeholders, and 3) reviewing the penultimate draft.

The Governor's Salmon Recovery Office (GRSO) asked the Academy to identify scientific and technical experts to conduct an independent third-party review of the GSRO’s policy review of salmon recovery efforts for the Governor.

The Academy was asked by the Department of Ecology to convene a committee of experts to review alternatives to hazardous “forever” chemicals — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS — in fiber-based packaging for food.

The Academy was asked by the the Joint Legislative Task Force on Water Supply to review of the estuary study portion of a 2001 technical report that informed the Skagit Instream Flow Rule.

WSAS convened a committee to conduct an independent peer review of three consultant reports prepared for the Department of Ecology and the Joint Legislative Task Force on Water Supply related to water supply in the Skagit River Basin.
