Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to spread rapidly through virtually all human activities, from scientific discovery to agriculture and politics. Its striking successes, especially in the application of generative AI to the creation of images and text, must be balanced against a multitude of concerns: among them, for the preservation of individual privacy and intellectual property, the growth of misinformation and disinformation, equity, and transparency. Washington State, like many states, faces numerous AI-related challenges. The WSAS annual symposium will bring together scientists, industry professionals, and policymakers to discuss the many challenges and opportunities emerging from this rapidly evolving technology.
