    Academy Announces Election of New Members

    The Washington State Academy of Sciences (WSAS) is pleased to announce 29 new members in recognition of their outstanding record of scientific and technical achievement and willingness to work on behalf of the Academy to bring the best available science to bear on issues within the state of Washington.

    The selected students attended the 2018 AAAS meeting - whose theme was Advancing Science: Discovery to Application - and shared their application-based research proposals with the broader scientific community.

    WSAS member Dan Schwartz receives top U.S. award for STEM mentors

    White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation recognized Schwartz for his innovative and interdisciplinary programs recruiting Native American and other minority STEM scholars at the University of Washington as well as his role as the founding director of UW’s Clean Energy Institute.

    Academy Announces Election of New Members

    Donna Gerardi Riordan will serve as the new WSAS Executive Director. She comes to the Academy with extensive experience in science policy.

    These groups are designed to engage members in key policy issues facing the state, organize and conduct projects addressing these issues, and help coordinate efforts to connect with other state and local organizations.

    WSAS evaluates Washington Department of Agriculture’s Interim Report on impacts of the 2015 drought

    The Washington State Department of Agriculture–Natural Resources Assessment Section asked the WSAS to review the science supporting the methodologies and interpretation of the results of its study of the 2015 drought on Washington agriculture.
